What is Feng Shui and why should you care? What the heck is this about, anyway? Are you about to indoctrinate me into some kind of woo-woo cult?
When I first heard of Feng Shui, I was already pretty far along in my woo-woo journey, but I totally understand how it sounds to the average person. It sounds like something that would NEVER work. You mean you can just move stuff around in your house and invite in good fortune and help me manifest anything? Really?
While that sounds like some law of attraction gimmick, I can assure you that Feng Shui is not some new age cultish way of organizing your home. Instead, it is about intentionally living within your home and using it to help you focus your life and dreams. And yes, sometimes it seems like it makes things happen like “magic.” But really, it’s anything but.
Feng Shui is both an art and a science. It originated over 3000 years ago in China. The word “feng” means wind, and the word “shui” means water. And really when you boil it down, it means how things flow around your home and your life. It has to do with energy (Chi) — how is the energy flowing in your life? Is there an area where it’s “stuck?” Is there something that’s affecting you negatively that maybe you wouldn’t have thought of otherwise?
Think of a river flowing. If it’s full of rocks or trash, the water can’t flow easily. It has to move around those obstacles. The same is true of the energy of your home. This is the basis of feng shui.
How Does Feng Shui Work?
Feng Shui is more than just decorating, furniture placement, color, and a bagua map. It’s about intentional living, balance in your surroundings, and arranging things in your home so that they feel better to you. And I believe that it has more to do with INTENTION than anything. Intentionally applying a Feng Shui cure, or moving your furniture, or placing an object — is your declaration to the Universe about what your intentions are.
How To Welcome Positive Energy Into Your Home With Feng Shui:
Let’s say that you would like to bring a new opportunity into your life. And maybe you’re not into this woo-woo stuff at all, but you really want to do something to help your vision come to life. One feng shui “cure” you can do to help welcome new energy into your home is to spruce up your front door.
- Clean it really well: remove any dirt, debris, and cobwebs.
- Clean the glass until it sparkles.
- Wipe down the doorknob.
- Buy a new welcome mat.
- Maybe even put a potted plant on your porch if you can.
- Do whatever you need to do so that when you look at your front door, you smile.
This is raising the energy of your front door — what you would open to new opportunities! The whole process of changing the energy of your front door is a signal to the Universe that you’re ready to welcome new things into your life.
Whether it’s a new job, more money, new friends — you’re declaring what you want and your home is reflecting that declaration.
Now every time you look at your front door and smile, you are feeling the feelings of LOVING your home and the new opportunities you’re creating in your life.
As you can see, Feng Shui is rooted in practicality. It’s rearranging the Universe in your favor. And it’s intentionally creating a home that you love.
