6 feng shui front porch tips for attracting great Chi!

Sharing is caring!

In feng shui, the outside of your home is just as important as the inside of your home.

Energetically, everything connected to your home affects you in one way or another.

The closer something is to you, the more it’s going to affect you.

So the places you spend the most time will affect you the most.

But the outside of your home is interesting because Chi (life force energy) has to pass through the exterior of your home in order to enter.

This is where feng shui front porch tips come into play!  If you have a front porch on your home, here’s how to use feng shui to increase the positive Chi!

6 feng shui porch tips for attracting great Chi!

How do I feng shui my front porch? 6 easy tips!

One: The first rule of good front porch feng shui is that everything is kept neat, tidy, and in good working order.

This is one of the most important things you can do for the energy entering your home because you want it to have a clear, clean path to enter!

Keep your porch swept and free of cobwebs, dirt, and grime.

And if anything is broken or in disrepair, fix it to the best of your ability.

Clear away the clutter as much as possible and start with a clean slate!

Two: Does your front porch make you smile?

Think about how you feel about your front porch.

Front porch feng shui ultimately comes down to how YOU feel about your home and porch.

If you have a lot of negative feelings towards it, that is the feeling the Chi is being greeted with every time it tries to enter your home!

If you’re really working on attracting new opportunities, more abundance, new relationships, or anything else, those manifestations are having to pass through your front porch and front door in order to get to you.

Now that doesn’t mean you have to give your front porch an entire overhaul in order to have good feng shui.

What it does mean is that you should tackle one or two things that really bother you and try to turn your negative feelings into at least neutral.

Your front porch and your front door are really important when it comes to attracting good fortune and new opportunities into your life.

It’s also one of the first things you notice about your home when you’re driving up or entering your home from the front.

You want it to be a good experience for you and the Chi you’re attracting into your life!

Even just adding a pop of color to your porch with a plant or new doormat can go a long way towards welcoming fresh Chi!

Three:  Speaking of welcome mats, everything associated with your front door also affects the feng shui of your porch.

Four:  Where does your front porch fall in terms of the feng shui bagua map?

The feng shui bagua map is the map of your home that shows you which areas of your home correlate to the different areas of your life.

In Western feng shui, the bottom of the bagua map aligns with the front door, which means your front porch should fall into either the knowledge/spirituality area, the career area, or the travel/helpful people area.

Whichever area is directly connected to your front porch is basically considered a “bonus” area.

So if your front porch is connected to the entire front side of your home, you have extra of all three areas to work with!

You can also use the feng shui bagua map on your porch individually, and place enhancements like you would an individual room in your home.

Things to consider when you’re thinking about the feng shui bagua map and your front porch:

Do you find that the feelings you have about your front porch are similar to the feelings you have about those areas of your life?

For example, if your porch feels run down, broken, or just tired and dirty, and it connects to your career area, do you find that you feel stuck at your job, that things never seem to go right, or that you have to go through a lot of problems in order for things to get accomplished?

Often what is going on with our homes can directly correlate with what’s going on in our lives.

But because the front porch also directly affects energy and new opportunities, it can reflect all sorts of things happening in your life.

Think of your front porch (and front door) as the first impression of your entire life and you can see how it affects you energetically!

Five: What color should your front porch be according to feng shui

What about feng shui colors for your front porch?

In Western feng shui, you don’t have to worry so much about what color is best where, so there isn’t a specific color recommended for your front porch.

I recommend using a color you love that goes with the overall aesthetic of your home.

If you go with a neutral color, you can add and change pops of color in your decor to strengthen your intentions and what you’re trying to manifest into your life!

Some ideas to add color to your front porch:

  • Flowers and flower pots
  • Wind chimes
  • Flags
  • String lights
  • Seating
  • Cushions and pillows
  • Throw blankets
  • Door mat
  • Wreath
  • Decorative signs
  • Rug
  • Decorative accessories, like statues or lanterns
  • Fountains
  • Seasonal decorations, like pumpkins, fall mums, poinsettias, or Christmas trees

Six: Feng shui tips to remember when decorating your front porch.

▶Don’t block the door.

Your front door is how the Universe sends energy your way, so you want to make sure you can easily get to the front door.

The door should open freely and you should be able to enter your home easily.

▶Balance is good.

If you have room, you can place plants on both sides of your front door, or along both sides of your front steps.

Also if possible, group furniture and home decor items so they are balanced on the porch and create a welcoming place to sit and hang out.

▶Light up the walkway.

If there isn’t a clear path to your front entry, you can use solar lights, string lights, or even decorative rocks to lead your visitors (and good Chi!) to your front door.

▶Your house numbers should be easily viewed.

If you don’t have your address clearly marked on your home or mailbox, you can add them somewhere on your front porch.

▶Make sure the porch light works.

Light bulbs are fire energy, and even if you don’t use your porch light often it’s important that it works.

Fire energy attracts and stimulates good luck and good fortune and draws attention from the Universe.

You can even turn your front porch light on for a few hours during the middle of the day to activate the energy even further!

▶Avoid spiky plants.

While spiky plants like cactus can provide a bit of energetic protection for your home, keep them away from the front door.

They create “poison arrows” which are considered dangerous energy in feng shui, and it will block Chi from entering your home.

If you love cactus and want to have them on the porch, just keep them at least a few feet from the front door, and away from high traffic areas.

▶Keep bushes and plants trimmed.

If you have bushes or plants around your porch, make sure to keep them trimmed so that they don’t block the front of the house.

Anything that blocks the front of the home will also block the good Chi and new opportunities, so keep them as neat and tidy as possible!

▶Privacy.

If privacy is an issue, you can hang curtains, sun shades, umbrellas, or even hanging plants.

Curtains and shades are nice because you can tie them back when you aren’t using the porch.

Hanging plants can provide privacy without completely blocking energy flow.

feng shui front porch tips: Q & A

What are the best feng shui plants for your front porch?

In feng shui, plants with rounded leaves, that grow in an upward direction are always the best energetically.

They represent abundance and growth.

But as with all things feng shui, use what you love!

Also, consider using flowering plants on your front porch when they are in season to add a pop of color!

How do I feng shui my porch entrance?

The walkway to your porch entrance should be well lit and free of obstacles and debris.

If your porch doesn’t have an obvious entrance, you can even add lights or stepping stones to designate a walkway that leads to the porch.

Think of the way someone would walk up to your front porch from the street.

Is it obvious?  Is it pleasant, clean, and bright?

If so, the energy that enters your home will have a clear path to the porch and your front door!

If you don’t use your front door, is front porch feng shui still important?

Yes! Even if you don’t use the front door, you should still consider using feng shui principles.

The front door, front porch, and front walkway are all very important in feng shui, because they are how new opportunities and good fortune find you!

At the very least, keep them neat and tidy, and try to use them a few times a week.

Even if you just use the front porch to check the mail, it will keep the energy moving!

Overall, what is the most important feng shui tip for your front porch?

Make sure you love it!

The most important thing you can do is create a front porch that makes you smile when you see your home.

If you don’t love it, change it!

Even if the only thing you can do is scrub everything clean and add one potted plant next to your door, that’s enough.  If it makes you smile, do it!

Loving your front porch means you’ll attract that same kind of energy into your home and life.
